Description
A superb and complete Cold War era US Air Force pilot flight helmet ensemble featuring an original P 4A helmet shell in factory white gloss finish with integrated sun visor and attached oxygen mask. The helmet displays a large US Air Force winged star insignia on the crown and a Captains rank insignia mounted above the visor housing, a classic presentation used by operational fighter and interceptor units from the late 1950s into the early Vietnam period.
The P 4A represented one of the most advanced US Air Force flight helmets of its time, offering improved acoustic insulation, a dual visor track system, and full compatibility with the MBU series oxygen masks. This example retains its tinted visor, PL 291 communication plug, full harness straps, and complete breathing and communications assembly. Light service wear is present, with excellent overall preservation.
This helmet type was used by Air Force and Air National Guard pilots flying aircraft such as the F 86 Sabre, F 100 Super Sabre, F 102 Delta Dagger, and early F 4 Phantom models. The early Air Force insignia, intact wiring harness, and complete mask assembly make this a highly desirable display piece for collectors of jet age aviation equipment.
