Description
World War II US Army Air Forces AAF OfficerÕs Summer Uniform Tunic, fully adorned with bullion insignia and clear provenance, indicating service in the challenging China-Burma-India CBI Theater.
The tunic is constructed from lightweight, khaki-colored cotton or wool gabardine, designed for wear in tropical or warm climates. It features the standard WWII US Army Officer s four-pocket cut with a fully belted waist and is fitted with gold-toned buttons bearing the US Great Seal eagle. The uniform is extensively dressed with high-quality bullion and metal insignia. The collar is fitted with silver-tone US discs and embroidered branch insignia, while the shoulder straps bear bullion Major rank insignia oak leaf clusters .
Affixed to the left breast is the Senior Pilot Wing Insignia, masterfully executed in bullion embroidery, signifying long-term flying experience. Below the wing is a ribbon bar displaying multiple awards, including campaign and service medals, many adorned with battle stars, indicating significant combat or theater service. The sleeves display critical bullion patches confirming the officer s specialized duty: on the left shoulder is the rare China-Burma-India CBI Theater Patch, featuring the stylized shield of the American flag with the sun and star emblems, signifying service in that theater. On the right shoulder is the embroidered Army Air Forces AAF Patch, featuring a central red circle, confirming his branch.
