Description
This lot consists of a pair of World War II era United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) items belonging to the Ninth Air Force. The first item is a commemorative unit history booklet titled The 9th Sees France and England. The cover features sepia-toned printing depicting a formation of Douglas A-20 Havoc light bombers. The prominent aircraft in the foreground displays the serial number 39701 on the vertical stabilizer and the fuselage code H- next to the star-and-bar insignia. The aircraft are marked with black and white invasion stripes on the wings and fuselages, identifying the period as coinciding with or following the June 1944 Normandy invasion. The second item is a Ninth Air Force shoulder sleeve insignia. This shield-shaped embroidered patch features a blue field with a golden-yellow circle containing a red number 9, surmounted by white wings and a white star with a red center. Insignia is post war and adhered to the front of the book
