Description
This lot consists of three original Third Reich-era documents including two Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF – German Labor Front) membership books and one Deutsches Reich Reisepass (Passport). The DAF membership books are constructed with red-orange textured cardstock covers and cloth-reinforced spines. The front covers feature a blind-embossed cogwheel containing a swastika, the official emblem of the DAF. The first DAF book was issued to Fritz Bressau, a shoemaker born May 25, 1902, in Engelau/Wehlau. He joined the organization on January 1, 1935, within Gau Gross-Berlin at the Humboldt administrative office. The second DAF book was issued to Adolf Schwarz, a commercial clerk born June 29, 1914, in Berlin. He also joined on January 1, 1935, within Gau Gross-Berlin at the Tiergarten administrative office. Both books contain the printed facsimile signature of Dr. Robert Ley, Reichsorganisationsleiter of the NSDAP, and include internal pages with ink entries and stamps. The third document is a civilian Reisepass issued to Katharina Kate Bukmann (nee Herwig), born December 9, 1888, in Berlin. The passport features a tan textured cardstock cover with the national emblem (eagle and swastika) above the text Deutsches Reich and Reisepass. It was issued on April 28, 1937, by the 132nd Police Precinct in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The internal pages include an original black-and-white portrait photograph secured with two metal eyelets and bearing the official embossed and inked stamps of the Police President in Berlin. The document provides a physical description of the bearer as tall with an oval face, gray eyes, and blond hair.
