Description
This is an original Japanese Type 100 High-Explosive (HE) 81mm mortar round, rendered inert for display. The projectile features a teardrop-shaped cast steel body with a series of machined obturating grooves. The body is finished in black paint with a single yellow identification band around the center, which historically denotes a high-explosive filling. The tail section consists of a steel boom with a multi-finned assembly for flight stabilization. The nose is fitted with a threaded brass impact fuse.Visible markings include several stamped and painted identifiers. Stamped into the upper body below the fuse are the digits 1 3 8 6 6 followed by a character, and 9 8 6 6. Hand-painted red characters are present at the fuse junction. The lower body displays fragmentary white stenciled characters, including a cross or plus sign and characters resembling Japanese kanji. The brass fuse exhibits stamped proof marks and Japanese characters related to fuse settings. The base of the tail boom shows where the primer has been removed.Overall length: Approx. 13.75 inches (35 cm).
