Description

This lot consists of two pieces of United States Army infantry field equipment constructed from heavy-duty khaki cotton canvas webbing. The first item is an M1910 haversack, a pattern used extensively during World War I and into the early 20th century. The pack features a main compartment with a large top flap and an attached meat can pouch on the exterior face. The lower flap is marked with a bold stenciled U.S. and an illegible purple ink stamp is present on an internal flap. The second item is an M1923 ten-pocket dismounted cartridge belt designed for carrying rifle ammunition clips. Each pocket is secured by a flap with a blackened brass snap fastener embossed with the Great Seal of the United States. The reverse of the belt features several stenciled markings, including the numbers 3917 on one section and the characters ONA 49 stenciled over a white paint application on another. The hardware is comprised of blackened brass and steel buckles, eyelets, and adjustment tabs.
