Description

This is an early-style Japanese military ammunition pouch designed for use with the Arisaka Type 38 or Type 99 rifles during the World War II era. The pouch is constructed from heavy russet brown leather and features a dual-compartment interior divided by a central leather partition. The design includes a single large top flap that is secured by a vertical leather strap fastening to a brass stud located on the bottom of the pouch. The reverse of the pouch is fitted with two wide vertical leather belt loops secured by heavy stitching. On the front face, there is a faded handwritten inscription in dark ink or pencil, beginning with a capital letter H, though the remaining characters are illegible. There are no visible manufacturer or arsenal stamps on the exterior or interior surfaces. This pattern of leather equipment was standard for the Imperial Japanese Army before the transition to rubberized canvas and other materials later in the war.
