Description
This is a standard-issue United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Type B-2 winter flying cap, produced circa 1943. The cap is constructed with a multi-panel dark brown leather exterior and a reinforced visor. The interior is fully lined with cream-colored sheepskin shearling for insulation in cold-weather environments. The design includes fold-down ear and neck flaps intended for use under flight helmets or headsets. Affixed to the front of the crown is a silver-toned metal rank insignia in the form of an oak leaf, indicating the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A black woven fabric label with gold-colored embroidered text is present in the interior. The label reads: TYPE B-2, SPEC. NO. 94-3096-A, SIZE 7 1/2, AF ORDER NO. 43-76-AF, SHAW-BARTON, INC., COSHOCTON, OHIO, PROPERTY AIR CORPS U.S. ARMY.
