Description
This is a United States Army officer service cap dating to the World War II era. The cap is constructed with an olive drab wool crown and a ribbed mohair braid band. It features a russet leather visor and a matching adjustable leather chin strap. The chin strap is held in place by two small gilt brass buttons embossed with the Great Seal of the United States. A large gilt brass officer cap device depicting the Great Seal is centered on the front of the crown. The interior is finished with a tan silk or rayon lining and a leather sweatband. A diamond-shaped clear plastic moisture guard is sewn into the top of the lining. The underside of the leather visor bears a handwritten inscription identifying the original owner as Jim Humphrey accompanied by the digits 4035. No manufacturer labels or stamps are visible.
