Description

This is a United States Marine Corps M-1940 pattern sun helmet, commonly referred to as a pith helmet. The construction consists of a pressed fiber body covered in a khaki-colored cotton twill fabric. The helmet features a six-panel crown and a wide, rounded brim. Affixed to the front is a bronzed metal USMC Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) insignia. The crown is fitted with original metal ventilation grommets. A leather chinstrap is present, currently positioned across the front brim. This model was standard issue for Marines serving in tropical climates during World War II and the early post-war period.
