Description
German Luftschutz civil defense helmet in the M38 Gladiator pattern. The item features a three-piece steel construction consisting of a crown, visor, and neck guard joined by a prominent horizontal bead. The exterior is finished in its original matte dark blue-gray paint. A silver-gray winged decal is centered on the front, featuring the Luftschutz banner and a swastika. The interior rear neck guard retains a white-on-black decal with German text authorizing distribution under Section 8 of the Air Raid Protection Law and listing a maximum price of 8.50 Reichsmarks. The metal shell is stamped RL2 – 39/2 above the decal, identifying the manufacturer as Paul Diener of Dresden. The interior contains a five-tongue tan leather liner with an original drawstring and a size 55 ink stamp. A two-piece adjustable black leather chinstrap with a steel buckle is attached. The crown includes two clusters of seven ventilation holes on each side.
