Spring Military Aviation and Militaria Auction
Lot 281:
Description
This lot consists of an original World War II era camouflage net system for the M1 steel helmet. The assembly includes a knotted cord net, commonly known as a shrimp net, manufactured from olive drab cotton in a square mesh pattern. Also included is the corresponding olive drab elastic foliage band designed to secure the net and supplemental natural camouflage to the helmet. The set retains its original two-sided paper instruction tag titled NET, HELMET, WITH BAND. The tag specifies the intended uses for the equipment, including breaking up the helmet silhouette, securing foliage, and preventing glare. It features printed diagrams labeled FIG. 1, FIG. 2, and FIG. 3. A handwritten notation in black marker, appearing as the letters R and E, is present on the first side of the tag.
