Description
A group of World War II United States Army Air Forces service and flight equipment identified to Technical Sergeant Leon E. Ellinger of Wetumpka, Alabama. The collection includes a Type M-455 sheepskin heavy zone flight jacket featuring a stenciled Army Air Forces winged star logo on the left chest and a shearling lining. A pair of original stamped stainless steel dog tags is present, bearing the name Leon E. Ellinger, service number 34199971, and a 1942 tetanus inoculation date.The enlisted service uniform consists of a four-pocket wool service coat and matching trousers. The coat is fitted with a felt 8th Air Force shoulder patch, Technical Sergeant rank chevrons with aviation specialist marks, brass U.S. and Army Air Forces collar disks, and sterling silver-colored enlisted aircrew wings. Ribbon bars include the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze service star. A Presidential Unit Citation ribbon with a gold-tone frame is mounted on the right breast, and an embroidered Ruptured Duck discharge patch is sewn above the right pocket. The interior of the coat is hand-marked with the name and service number. The trousers feature handwritten names S. K. Rider and L. Ellinger in the waistband.Additional items include an enlisted man?s service cap with a tan summer cover and brass Great Seal insignia, a pair of flight goggles with dark-tinted lenses and rubberized frames, a cardboard box for an M1 Anti-Gas Eye Shield dated 1941, and a tan service necktie. A full-size Good Conduct Medal and a blue enamel unit-specific insignia featuring a hand with lightning bolts are also included.
