Description
This antique advertising vesta case, also known as a match safe, was produced for the Anheuser-Busch brewing company of St. Louis, Missouri. The rectangular metal case features silver plating over a base metal, likely brass or nickel silver. Both the front and back are decorated in relief with the company’s iconic A and Eagle logo. The design depicts a large vertically-striated letter A with a spread-wing eagle perched inside. A decorative crest topped with a five-pointed star sits above the central logo, and the corners are embellished with embossed Art Nouveau-style scrollwork. The name A. BUSCH is embossed within the center of the letter A, and a curved ribbon banner at the base of the design reads ANHEUSER-BUSCH ST. LOUIS. The case is constructed with a side-mounted hinge and a snap-closure lid.
