Description
As shown. Helen Kalvak Inuit, 1901?1984 created this striking screenprint on coarse, olive-toned burlap, depicting a traditional hunting scene. At the center, a figure in a hooded parka thrusts a spear toward a large bear, while two sled dogs leap into the action from above. The figures appear in bold, dark indigo silhouettes, reflecting the artist?s distinctive graphic style developed through the Holman Eskimo Co-operative. The name KALVAK is printed in block letters at the lower left, and the piece is housed in a simple mitered dark wood frame.
