Description
This limited edition offset lithograph by Robert Stephen Simon, produced in 1987, captures the historic moment known as the Shot Heard Round the World. The scene depicts the Polo Grounds on October 3, 1951, during the playoff game between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers, specifically showing Bobby Thomson hitting his legendary walk-off home run off pitcher Ralph Branca. The artwork provides a wide panoramic view from behind home plate, showing the full stadium filled with spectators, the players on the field, and period-accurate details including a Chesterfield cigarette advertisement and a Longines clock on the scoreboard. The print features three hand-signatures. It is signed in silver ink on the field by Bobby Thomson, who added the inscription Oct. 3, 1951, and by Ralph Branca, who inscribed it 10/3/51. The artist, Robert Stephen Simon, has hand-signed the piece in pencil in the lower right margin. Additionally, his signature and copyright date are printed within the image field as Robert Stephen Simon ? 1987. The piece is a limited edition, hand-numbered 284/1951 in pencil in the lower left margin, with the edition size reflecting the year of the event. It is presented in a simple wood frame with a white mat.
