Lot 230:
Description
Extensive collection from ID’s 78th Inf. Officer. This is an amazing identified German grouping of Gunther Keese, of the 78th Infantry Regiment. He died Oct 1941 on the Russian front. His dress uniform, and other items survived and were sent home to the family. These were obtained directly from the family of Gunther Keese, through a collector in Florida and then to the current owner in Colorado. These are the only known caretakers of this grouping. It is noted the ribbon bar was most likely something the family got posthumously and added to his uniform, as one ribbon was the campaign Gunther was killed in and not issued till after the campaign and of such Gunter would have been deceased. Everything was well taken care of and is in remarkable shape. Included is the uniform, cap, engraved dagger, lose medals, and other items. When Gunther was promoted he saved each of his shoulder tabs from each promotion. When he would chip the dagger handle, he also saved the chipped handles after replacement. Included is a copy of letters from Gunthers daughter to family members. Letter to Gunther’s wife regarding his passing and where he was buried. Copies of original photos of Gunther wearing the uniform at his wedding are included, written no the back by the family. Included is all the research I could find. Family also included a family photo and identified each person in the photo. Also found a photo of Gunther when he was with the German Police prior to Hitler. This is an absolutely amazing grouping for someone to own, that carries a great deal of care from the family. The daughter tells of a very good father and one that did not like Hitler but served as he was asked to do.
