Lot 133:
Description
Exceptionally rare 1820s, 1ST Seminole War period, coatee. The jacket is made of a cotton/linen denim like material indicitive of a Pre Civil War, SOUTHERN product. This material is frequently seen in Confederate shell jackets. Stabilization/restoration has already occoured but parts of it should be redone with material closer to the original. As can be seen, there are some larger areas of repair to both th egrey body and the red trim. Areas of loss were replaced with similar color cloth. The exception is the ribcage area, where the color is much lighter. This style of button came in during 1821 and was gone by 1832. Uniforms from this period are almost non existant. Definately made to be worn in a warm climate. Don’t miss this one.
