Rare WWII German NSKK Black Leather Crash Helmet with Visor and Metal Insignia

This lot features a rare and distinctive piece of paramilitary organizational headgear: an Original WWII German National Socialist Motor Corps NSKK Black Leather Crash Helmet Sturzhelm. These helmets were worn by NSKK members, often while riding motorcycles or performing traffic and transport duties.

The helmet is constructed from a hard, black-painted fiber shell covered with black leather trim and padding, giving it a unique, rugged appearance. The surface leather shows clear wear, crackling, and surface distress consistent with decades of age and use. The helmet features a signature large, rolled leather donut running front to back over the dome, designed to offer protection in the event of a crash. The side view shows a simple ventilation hole on the lower shell.

A prominent feature is the striking metal insignia mounted vertically on the front center: a silver-toned NSKK Eagle and Swastika badge. The insignia is topped by a banner embossed with the organizations name NSKK and is a key identifier for this organizational helmet. A separate, simpler winged insignia, possibly of a visor or air force affiliation, is visible towards the rear of the dome, adding to the helmet s unique history.

The interior is completed with an intricate brown leather liner system, typically a six- or eight-fingered design, secured by lacing. The liner appears complete and is stamped with manufacturer details, including BUSSE MAINZ and a size mark, likely 58. The large, protective leather skirt or neck flap is present, designed to cover the back of the neck and ears. The helmet retains its original black leather chinstrap/harness with a period aluminum buckle.

This NSKK helmet is a highly specialized and visual piece of political and organizational headgear, rarely found complete with the original liner, neck flap, and insignia.
