The Legion of Merit Commander is a gorgeous medal with a heavy gilt and enameled pendant that hangs from a neck cravat. The reverse of the pendant is also enameled. This example is inscribed to “Ihsan Hamid Bat Shurdom” who served as a pilot in the Royal Jordanian Air Force and rose to the rank of Chief of the Jordanian Air Force in 1983. What is most interesting about General Shurdom is that he flew as a pilot against the Israelis during the famous Six-DayWar in 1967 where the Jordanian Air Force lost their entire strength of 28 aircraft during the hostilities. There is much to read about the previous owner of this prestigious medal. You will be hard-pressed to find another to recipient of this notoriety.
