Perry Sportswear A-2 Flight Jacket – Named to Lt. E.M. Lutz, 525th Bomb Squadron, 379th Bomb GroupOffered here is a historically significant WWII A-2 flight jacket manufactured under contract by Perry Sportswear, size 36. The jacket features a name tag on the chest for “Lt. E.M. Lutz, ” an intriguing error as the pilot’s true name was Lt. Col. Edmund H. Lutz. Lutz served with distinction as a B-17 pilot in the 525th Bomb Squadron, 379th Bomb Group, and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and multiple campaign medals. The back of the jacket is hand-painted with mission bomb silhouettes and target names, including *Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Ingolstadt* (twice), and *Dresden*—the latter represented with a firebomb motif. The artwork includes a now-faded B-17 with correct tail markings and 25 mission bombs, aligning with Lutz’s documented combat record. The jacket presents with older replacement cuffs, waistband, and zipper, and retains a very good, pliable leather body. Wear is evident at the collar, shoulders, and elbows—consistent with wartime use. This piece offers excellent research potential and stands as a rare artifact from a pilot who flew in some of the most notable bombing raids of the European Theater.
