Lot 238:
Description
Exceptional construction in this two piece taffeta gown. The construction of the back reflects the later 1860s styling. Bodice has a combination of hand and machine sewing, hand-sewn button holes, crisp pleating, and generous peplum on the back. The buttons are extremely unusual: dog faces in cast metal. Shaped sleeves with lace trim at the cuffs and generously pleated skirt make this a beautiful example of the period. Hemline is fully lined with a protective layer and piping. Some very minor repair on the waistline of the skirt and this gown is solid enough to be worn.
