Description
An evocative oil on panel depicting a hillside and sparse tree silhouetted against a glowing golden sunset sky. Executed with expressive brushwork and a rich tonal palette, the work reflects the atmospheric qualities for which Corot and the Barbizon School are admired. Signed Corot at lower right. A small old collection label inscribed – 73 Corot – is affixed to the verso. Dimensions: approx. 9 x 14 in. sight. Condition: Panel with an old horizontal split across the center; scattered surface abrasions and retouch; varnish uneven with age-related craquelure. Provenance: Private collection, upstate New York. Note: While bearing the signature of Corot, this painting is offered attributed and not authenticated. Buyers should satisfy themselves as to authorship.
