December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 121:
Description
This is an authentic and iconic piece of World War II militaria: a German Stielhandgranate Model 24 M24 stick grenade, specifically a practice or training variant. The grenade features a wooden handle and a metal head, which retains a significant amount of its original olive green or ordnance yellow paint. The head is clearly marked with German stencil text, including the instruction ZUR GEBRAUCH DECKCAPSEL EINSETZEN meaning To Use Insert Base Cap. The top of the wooden handle bears a clear manufacturer or inspection stamp . The wooden handle is fitted with a metal base cap that unscrews, and this example retains the remnants of its internal components, showing wear consistent with period training use. The metal head is marked GEN and includes other obscured stamps, confirming its official manufacture. The M24 was the standard fragmentation grenade used by the German Wehrmacht throughout World War II, and this practice version, which features its original finish and markings, is a highly recognizable and desirable piece of infantry equipment history.
