Description
A classic and essential piece of World War II field gear, this is an original German M31 Feldflasche 31 Canteen set, complete with its mess cup and leather carrying harness. This example features the standard construction used throughout the war: a felted wool cover over the aluminum flask, a leather cross-strap harness that secures the black Bakelite or composition drinking cup over the neck, and a quick-release belt clip on the harness for attachment to the bread bag or equipment belt. The wool cover exhibits a desirable, authentic field-worn patina, showing a rich, tan/brown color consistent with period use and age. The black leather harness appears complete, intact, and well-preserved, featuring a functional steel buckle and a spring-loaded clip. The black drinking cup, which acts as the canteen s cap, is in excellent condition. Items like this that retain all their original componentsÑespecially the fragile leather and Bakelite/composition piecesÑare highly sought after by collectors of Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS equipment. This is a very displayable piece of history.
