December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 153:
Description
Includes a letter from the soldier who mailed the book back to his younger brother in the USA, describing how he aquired the book. This lot presents a highly collectible original German-language edition of Adolf Hitler s infamous work, Mein Kampf My Struggle, issued during the period of the Third Reich. The overall style, binding, and presentation are consistent with a special occasion edition, typically gifted by the German state or local government to newlyweds or prominent citizens.
The book is bound in dark, likely black or deep blue, leather or imitation leather with gilt lettering on the spine. The title Mein Kampf and the author Adolf Hitler are prominently displayed in period German script. A decorative element, such as an oak leaf motif, is featured near the base of the spine, a common patriotic symbol in Germany.
A particularly rare feature of this lot is the inclusion of its original cardboard slipcase presentation box. The slipcase shows significant aging, wear, and staining, but still retains faint printed text. The text on the slipcase is likely the title, author s name, and possibly a dedication or presentation inscription, which appears to include Brgermeister Mayor and Sonderausgabe Special Edition, consistent with a gift edition from a local government official. The presence of the original slipcase significantly enhances the collectible value and rarity of this piece.
The edition is a standard two-volume in one edition published during the WWII era. It is identified as a German-language edition based on the clearly visible titles and names on the spine.
This is an excellent historical and bibliographic artifact for the specialized collector of Third Reich documents and literature.
