Lot 189:
Description
This lot of three features authentic and specialized pieces of Soviet Cold War aviation gear: an Original USSR Soviet Russian Leather Flying Helmet ____ used by pilots or aircrew. These helmets were standard issue across the Soviet Air Force and other Warsaw Pact nations from the mid-20th century onwards. Also used by tank crews.
The helmet is constructed from black leather in a classic flying helmet pattern, designed to integrate communications equipment and provide insulation. The leather is segmented with reinforced stitching and shows a rich patina with minor scuffing and creasing consistent with age and flight use. The interior is fully lined with a soft, light brown or tan chamois/suede material, which shows signs of discoloration from use. The exterior ear cups are covered in black rubberized domes, which protect the integrated earphones and are secured by a metal clip and webbing. The helmet includes a partial green canvas chin/face strap and various snaps and buckles for oxygen mask attachment.
A highly important feature for provenance is the original internal manufacturer s cloth tag, which is secured to the black internal lining and printed in Cyrillic. The tag confirms the manufacturing location and date: _. ______ 1964 _. Moscow 1964, and identifies the manufacturer as the ____________ _______ ________ Rostokinsky Fur Combine, though the helmet itself appears leather. This specific model and date place the helmet firmly in the mid-Cold War era, during the height of Soviet aviation development.
