This is an authentic United States Army Jungle Hat, commonly known as a Boonie Hat, which became an iconic piece of field gear during the Vietnam War. This hat is the officially issued version, distinct from earlier, softer versions, and is easily identified by its tag.
The hat is made from lightweight olive drab cotton fabric, designed for the hot, humid climate of Southeast Asia. Key features include the classic stitched brim, the olive green webbing -branch loops- around the crown for adding local camouflage, and four metal ventilation grommets. The interior features an intact identification tag that confirms the item as HAT, JUNGLE, W/HEADNET, and provides the size as a moderately desirable 7 1/2. Crucially, the contract number DSA-100-67-C-4453 clearly dates this hat to the 1967 Fiscal Year, placing it directly in the thick of the Vietnam War.
