December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 21:
Description
This lot features a rare and unique piece of World War II homefront and auxiliary service history: an Original Junior WomenÕs Air Corps Enamel Membership Pin. This pin would have been worn by a young woman involved in the auxiliary or support organizations connected to the military aviation effort, reflecting the widespread involvement of women on the homefront during the war.
The pin is constructed of enameled metal in a distinctive triangular shape. The design is finely executed, featuring a central stylized silver-tone aircraft superimposed over a blue enamel triangle. The aircraft resembles an early military trainer or transport plane. The entire piece is framed by a white enamel border bearing the inscription WOMENÕS AIR CORPS JUNIOR along the edges in black text. The reverse of the pin features a simple clutch pin fastener, which is intact and functional.
Pins and badges from auxiliary and junior organizations of the WWII era are scarce and highly collectible, offering a tangible connection to the non-combat roles supporting the war effort. This is an excellent example of patriotic homefront insignia.
