December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 297:
Description
Needs further research – USAF ColonelÕs Service Uniform paired with his Personalized Named Flight Bag, belonging to Colonel A. G. Hunter. This ensemble is a premium Cold War era artifact, marking the transition from the Army Air Forces to the independent USAF.
The uniform consists of the USAF Blue Service Coat and matching trousers, constructed of blue wool serge fabric. The tunic features four pockets and is fitted with silver-tone buttons and insignia, consistent with the post-1947 USAF. The shoulder boards display the silver eagle insignia of a full Colonel. The lapels are fitted with the silver-tone US discs. Affixed above the left breast pocket is the Senior Pilot Wing Insignia, confirming long-term operational flying status. Below the wing are three rows of service ribbons, displaying multiple awards including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and various campaign and service decorations, indicating a highly distinguished military career spanning potentially through WWII and the Cold War.
The grouping is significantly enhanced by the inclusion of the ColonelÕs personal flight bag. The bag is constructed of durable, olive drab canvas or rubberized material with leather trim and carry handle. The side pocket is clearly stenciled with the ownerÕs rank and identification: A. G. HUNTER COL. USAF along with a unit designation 570 A. This direct, named provenance linking the uniform to the bag creates a museum-quality display.
