Description
This is a prestigious and identified United States Navy Type G-1 Intermediate Flight Jacket attributed to a Test Pilot at the elite Naval Air Test Center NATC Patuxent River. Manufactured by Imperial Leather & Sportswear Inc. under the post-Vietnam era specification MIL-J-7823E AS , this jacket bears the 1976 contract number DSA100-76-C-0375. The jacket features the classic dark brown goatskin leather construction, the period-correct synthetic -dynel- fur collar standardized in the E-series , and the distinctive -USN- perforation punched into the wind flapÑa hallmark of authentic G-1s from this era.
The historical significance of this piece is defined by the large, fully embroidered insignia of the U.S. Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland sewn to the right chest. -Pax River- is the Navy s premier proving ground, home to the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, where the service s most skilled aviators test the limits of new airframes and systems. The jacket is personalized with a leather name tag embossed -V. S. PETERS Ð USN-. This jacket is attributed to Captain Vaughn S. Peters, a career Naval Aviator and Test Pilot. Captain Peters served as the Director of the Strike Aircraft Test Directorate at Patuxent River and was instrumental in the testing and development of the F/A-18 Hornet and other strike platforms during the late 1970s and 1980s.
