This landmark issue represents the first installment of the "New X-Men" era in the main series title, following the teams revival in Giant-Size X-Men 1. The narrative includes the departure of Sunfire from the group and the second appearances of legendary characters Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, and Thunderbird.
