Description
This lot features an original first-issue copy of Sports Illustrated magazine, dated August 16, 1954. The cover depicts Milwaukee Braves slugger Eddie Mathews at the plate during a night game in Milwaukee. The magazine is accompanied by a formal Certificate of Authenticity dated January 28, 1994, and signed by Donald M. Elliman, Jr., the president of Sports Illustrated at that time. According to the certificate, this item is a genuine 146-page Volume 1, Number 1 original from the initial press run of approximately 600,000 copies. The magazine and certificate are presented in a custom red pebbled leatherette portfolio featuring gold-tone embossed lettering on the front cover and a gold foil seal on the interior document. The magazine is housed in a clear protective sleeve.
