Description
This is a German Model 1917 (M17) Eierhandgranate, commonly referred to as an egg hand grenade. The artifact features a cast iron body in an ovoid shape with a prominent raised fragmentation band around the center. The top of the unit retains the fuse assembly housing and a scalloped metal end cap. Stamped on the flat top of the end cap are the characters H B positioned over the characters S E K. These markings represent period manufacturer or inspection stamps. The item is constructed of cast iron with a steel or alloy fuse assembly and is offered in inert condition as a historical relic.
