Description

This is a main instrument panel for a World War II P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft. The panel is constructed of heavy-gauge metal featuring a black crinkle-finish coating and is mounted on a modern black display base for exhibition. The assembly contains a full suite of primary flight and engine monitoring instruments consistent with the standard USAAF blind flying layout. Visible instrumentation includes an 8-day clock with luminous numerals, an airspeed indicator scaled 50-700 MPH, a Type AN5730-2 remote indicating compass indicator with AN stamp, a Kollsman-type three-pointer sensitive altimeter, a bank and turn indicator, and a rate of climb indicator scaled 0-6. Additional gauges include a suction gauge, an Airpath Type B-16 magnetic compass, a free air temperature gauge scaled in Celsius, a manifold pressure gauge scaled 10-75 inches of mercury, a tachometer scaled 5-45, an engine cluster gauge for oil and fuel monitoring, a fuel quantity indicator scaled to 270 gallons, and a cylinder head temperature gauge. The panel also features landing gear and flap warning lights, an oxygen/suction warning light, and a red-guarded emergency switch. The reverse side retains original instrument casings, plumbing ports, and electrical connectors. Manufacturer marks include Elgin National Watch Co. with Order No. AC-34850, Spec No. 94-27910-E, Mfrs Part No. 7313-1, and Serial No. AF-44-27910-E. The magnetic compass bears a brass identification plate with Serial No. AC 42-26155-E. Various components feature AN prefixes, including AN-5820-1, and small circular inspector stamps.
