Description
This is a World War II German Luftwaffe LKp S 101 summer-weight flying helmet, also known as a Fliegerkopfhaube. The helmet is constructed from tan heavy-weave cotton canvas with dark brown leather-covered padded earcups. The interior is lined with brown satin-weave fabric, and the earcups feature thick white natural sheepskin wool cushioning. It is equipped with an integrated wiring harness, a brown Bakelite junction box, and a two-prong communications plug. Fastenings include a dark brown leather chin strap with a steel buckle and three leather goggle retention straps on the rear secured by metal snaps. An interior white fabric label is printed in blue and stamped in purple with the following: Fl. Kopfhaube Gr. 57, Baumuster LKp S 101, Ger?t-Nr. 124-436B, Ln 26617, and Siemens Lieferer: Luftfahrtger?tewerk Hakenfelde GmbH. The internal plastic earcup components are molded with the designation Ln 26602. Faint black ink characters E, 3, and 8 are stacked vertically on the exterior fabric near the top goggle strap.
