Lot 241:
Description
This is an original French Model 1915 Adrian combat helmet, the standard-issue steel headgear for the French Army during World War I. The helmet is constructed from four pieces of pressed steel: a central bowl, front and rear visors joined by a narrow rim, and a characteristic protective crest riveted over the top ventilation slit. The front of the helmet features a stamped metal insignia of a flaming grenade embossed with the letters RF, representing the Republique Francaise, which was the standard badge for French Infantry units. The shell retains portions of its original matte blue-gray Horizon Blue paint finish. The interior contains a multi-part leather liner consisting of several triangular tongues tied at the center. A thin, adjustable leather chinstrap remains attached to the side bails and is positioned across the front visor.
