Spring Military Aviation and Militaria Auction
Lot 279:
Description
Two M1 Helmets as shown. This lot features two components of a US military M1 helmet system, attributed to the mid-20th century, specifically the Korean War era. The first component is a US M1 steel helmet shell. It features swivel-loop chinstrap bales, indicating a production date from mid-1943 or later. The shell retains an olive drab finish with a textured corked surface. A partial olive drab webbing chinstrap with metal hardware is attached to one bale. The second component is a high-pressure composite helmet liner. The interior crown displays a radial sunburst pattern from the molding process. The liner is fitted with an olive drab canvas webbing suspension system secured by blackened A-washers, an adjustable nape strap, and an orange-tan leather sweatband. The liner is covered with a tan burlap coarse-weave fabric cover, which is secured by a green elastic foliage band. This specific burlap cover configuration is historically associated with US Army and USMC use during the Korean War and the 1958 Lebanon Crisis. No manufacturer heat stamps or logos are visible on the shell or liner.
