Description
The left shoulder displays a USAAF winged star shoulder sleeve insignia. The right lower sleeve bears a triangular blue and yellow Army Air Forces Technical Training Command patch, while the right breast features an embroidered Honorable Discharge patch, known as the Ruptured Duck. A single gold bullion overseas service bar is located on the lower left sleeve, representing six months of overseas service. The collar is fitted with a matched set of brass US and winged propeller disks. The lapels feature a pair of enameled Distinctive Unit Insignia pins for the Air Training Command, depicting a blue shield with a cornucopia and the motto Sustineo Alas. Pinned above the left breast pocket is a pair of silver Glider Pilot wings featuring a central shield with a raised letter G. The reverse of the wings is stamped STERLING with a secondary indistinct mark. A three-ribbon bar is mounted below the wings, consisting of the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. The interior neck lining contains a black ink stenciled laundry mark reading C 4 5 2 2.
