Description
This is a United States Army M1943 Herringbone Twill HBT utility jacket, a standard issue fatigue garment used during World War II. The jacket is constructed from olive drab cotton fabric featuring a prominent diagonal herringbone weave. This second pattern design is characterized by two large gusseted breast pockets with rectangular flaps secured by metal buttons. The front closure originally featured five metal tack buttons, each embossed with a circular relief design of 13 five-pointed stars. The garment includes a convertible collar with buttons on the underside intended for a detachable hood, and sleeves with button-cuff closures. Internal markings include a white fabric size tag sewn into the neck seam printed with 36R. The interior placket contains two vertical columns of faint ink-stamped digits, identified as soldier-applied laundry marks, reading 1332 and 8277.
