Description

This is a mid-century military aircraft recognition model used by the United States military for training personnel in the identification of foreign aircraft during the Cold War. The model depicts the Soviet Tupolev Tu-85 heavy bomber, identified by the NATO reporting name Barge. The item is constructed from molded plastic, likely acetate or a similar hard resin, and is finished in a uniform light gray or off-white color. As is standard for recognition models of this period, it is designed without propellers to prevent damage during handling. The top of the left wing features embossed characters reading BARGE and U.S.S.R BOMBER. Handwritten notations in black ink on the left wing read (TU-4) and (Tu-70), likely added by a previous instructor or owner to reference related Tupolev aircraft. The top of the right wing is embossed with the date JULY 55, the designation U.S. PROPERTY, and the scale 1:144. The Tu-85 was the final development of the Tu-4 airframe before being superseded by jet-powered strategic bombers.Scale: 1:144.
