Description
This is an Imperial Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, 8th Class, also known as the White Paulownia Leaf Medal (Kun-hatchito Hakushoku Toyosho). The decoration is constructed of solid silver in the form of a three-leaf paulownia sprig, a traditional imperial crest. The obverse features detailed veining within the leaves. The reverse is flat and bears a four-character inscription in archaic seal script reading right to left as Kunko Seisho, which translates to Badge of Meritorious Deed. The medal is suspended from its original 37mm wide watered silk ribbon in white with red side stripes, featuring a silver-colored metal hook and eye mounting hardware on the reverse. The set includes its original black lacquered wood presentation case. The lid features gold-stenciled Japanese characters identifying the contents as the 8th Class Order of the White Paulownia Leaf. The interior is lined with purple velvet on the base and purple silk in the lid, secured with a silver-colored metal hinge and pressure-latch.
