Description
A mid-20th century waterproof match box produced for the United States military during the World War II era. The container is constructed from molded, light brown plastic, likely Tenite, featuring a vertically ribbed cylindrical body designed for a secure grip. It includes a matching screw-on circular cap with a knurled edge to facilitate opening. The base of the container is embossed with U S on one side and NOSCO on the opposite side, identifying the manufacturer as Nosco Plastics of Erie, Pennsylvania, a known wartime contractor. A recessed rectangular slot centered on the base contains a striking surface or flint strip. This item was a standard issue component for survival kits and personal field gear.
