Description
This is an antique promotional matchbox sleeve, also known as a vesta case cover, produced for the Durbin and Bust carriage manufacturing firm. The item is constructed from stamped metal, likely brass or gold-plated steel, and features decorative Victorian-style scrollwork in each corner. The face of the sleeve is engraved with the following text: COMPLIMENTS OF DURBIN – BUST CARRIAGES, AUBURN – WEEDSPORT. The design includes a curved top edge and a semi-circular thumb-cut at the bottom to facilitate the sliding of a matchbox. A scalloped border runs along the bottom edge. Durbin and Bust was a carriage manufacturing company based in Auburn and Weedsport, New York, during the late 19th to early 20th century.
