Fall 2026 Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 127:
Description
Group of four U.S. military hand grenades consisting of three M18 colored smoke grenades and one M26-series fragmentation grenade, all rendered inert for display and collecting purposes. The three cylindrical examples are U.S. M18 smoke grenades, including one marked “M18 SMOKE GREEN” and two marked “M18 SMOKE VIOLET.” Each retains the characteristic cylindrical steel body, broad identification band, spoon-type fuze assembly, safety pin and pull ring. The fuze assemblies are marked “FUZE M201A1.” Colored identification paint remains visible around the upper surfaces corresponding with the designated smoke colors. Vent openings are present in the bases.Accompanying the smoke grenades is a U.S. M26-series fragmentation grenade, readily distinguished by its familiar oval or “lemon” shaped body. It retains an olive-drab finish, yellow identification band around the neck, spoon-type fuze assembly, safety pin and pull ring. A drilled/opened area at the base is visible and consistent with its inert display status. The M26 family was the standard American fragmentation grenade of the early Cold War and Vietnam-era period, replacing the WWII Mk II pattern. The pieces display varying amounts of finish wear, handling marks and age to the metal components. Markings on the M18 grenades remain particularly clear and display well.
