Description
WWII 99th BG navigator grouping – Named POW Ploesti Air Medal & Korea. Named medal and document group to Howard M. Myers, O-703568 / A0703568, later 13045988, of Baltimore. He joined a 99th Bombardment Group crew in Italy in July 1944 as the squadron diary recorded new faces the night before another strike on the Ploesti oil fields. Fifteenth Air Force awarded him the Air Medal by GO 2250, 1 August 1944, with oak leaf clusters by GO 2851 (25 August) and GO 3509 (20 September). After the war he stayed in uniform; Far East Air Forces added a third cluster by GO 521, 13 October 1952.
In the lot: two Air Medals (one with devices on the ribbon); Good Conduct Medal in a titled box; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign; American Campaign; World War II Victory; National Defense; Army of Occupation (Germany gate); United Nations Korea with KOREA bar. Sterling aircrew wings, two pair, pin-back. Four dog tags-MYERS HOWARD M. A0703568 T O P and 13045988 T43, next of kin Blanch Myers, 5425 Patterson Ave., Baltimore. Folded Allied map of German prison camps, Stalags and Oflags marked across the Reich. Copies of the Air Medal cards and the July 1944 99th BG diary pages naming him with the new crews. Medals and tags with honest wear; boxes present; map folded as carried. A documented 15th Air Force navigator’s group that runs from the Italian B-17 war and Ploesti to a Far East Air Medal in Korea.
