Description
WWII USMC P-41 HBT Utility Jacket, Salty EGA Stenc. World War II United States Marine Corps Pattern 1941 (P-41) Herringbone Twill Utility Jacket, sage-green combat fatigue coat with stenciled USMC/Eagle, Globe, and Anchor breast marking and genuine field-worn puncture damage This lot offers an original P-41 utility jacket, the workhorse combat coat issued to Marines across the Pacific theater from 1941 through the opening months of the Korean War. Adopted in 1941 to replace earlier denim and cotton fatigue clothing, the P-41 became the standard utility uniform of the wartime Marine Corps, worn by riflemen, engineers, and support troops alike through Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and every major amphibious campaign of the Pacific War. Its coarse, durable HBT weave and simple three-pocket cut suited jungle and island fighting where uniforms were routinely torn, patched, sweat-soaked, and discarded once beyond salvage. Surviving examples with genuine period wear are prized by collectors precisely because so many jackets of this type were used up rather than preserved; the scattered punctures and frayed pocket mouths on this coat are consistent with that kind of hard field service rather than later staging or artificial distressing. The jacket is cut in standard P-41 configuration: notched collar, front button placket, one patch chest pocket, and two lower patch pockets, all in olive-drab cotton herringbone twill. The chest pocket carries a black-stenciled two-line
