Description

WWII German Luftwaffe SA-Schloss Fl. 30232 Parachute Quick-Release Buckle, Autoflug pattern, manufactured by Dr. Gettwart of Berlin, Werk-Nr. 4102964, Geraet-Nr. 10-10 C-1 Offered here is an original World War II Luftwaffe parachute harness quick-release box, the so-called SA-Schloss (Schnellabwurf-Schloss), retaining its full stamped technical cartouche on the reverse baseplate: Bauart Autoflug, Geraet-Nr. 10-10 C-1, Werk-Nr. 4102964, Anforderz. Fl 30232, Hersteller Dr. Gettwart, Berlin. Its interest rests in its documented maker markings, works number, and its role as a critical safety fitting on German aircrew and Fallschirmjaeger parachute harnesses throughout the war. The Fl. 30232 release buckle formed the central locking mechanism fitted to the chest of Luftwaffe parachute harnesses from the late 1930s through the end of the conflict, its design attributed to the Autoflug firm and produced under contract by several manufacturers, Dr. Gettwart of Berlin among them. A single rotate-and-press action released all four harness straps simultaneously, a feature valued by aircrew ditching over water and by paratroopers contending with high winds on landing, both situations in which a jumper dragged by an inflated canopy risked serious injury or drowning. The engraved instruction on the release dial, GURTZEUG ABLEGEN: DREHEN, DANN DRUeCKEN!, provides clear guidance for the rapid shedding of the parachute harness.
