Fall 2026 Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 398:
Description
Original World War II German aviation goggles of the Luftwaffe Windschutzbrille / Fliegerschutzbrille family, closely corresponding to the Model 295-type protective flying goggles issued to German aircrew during the Second World War. The goggles feature olive-gray molded rubber eye surrounds fitted with individual oval metal lens frames, clear lenses, a simple articulated metal bridge, and an adjustable tan/olive elasticized head strap with period metal fittings. This style of protective eyewear was worn by Luftwaffe pilots and aircrew to shield the eyes from wind, debris, and cockpit exposure during flight operations. German wartime flying goggles were manufactured in several related patterns by firms including Carl Zeiss, Ernst Leitz, O.W. Wagener, Philip M. Winter, Nitsche & Guenther, and others. The present example exhibits age-appropriate wear, oxidation to the metal fittings, surface wear to the rubber components, and patina to the strap consistent with period use and storage. A scarce and visually distinctive example of original WWII German Luftwaffe flight equipment.
