Fall 2026 Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 417:
Description
Original WWII-era Imperial Japanese military aviation flying goggles of the distinctive two-piece “cat-eye” pattern. Constructed with black-finished metal lens frames fitted with dark tinted lenses, khaki fabric-covered eye cups, padded fur/velvet-type interior surrounds, adjustable leather nose bridge with blackened metal buckle, and original khaki webbing head straps. The lenses retain small inspection or production markings visible near the edges. The construction is consistent with goggles used by Japanese military aircrews during the Second World War. Japanese aviation goggles were manufactured in numerous variations for both Army and Navy use, including clear and tinted lens configurations and padded or fur-lined models intended to improve comfort and sealing around the eyes.Condition shows expected service and age wear, including discoloration and loss to portions of the interior padding, wear to the leather bridge and webbing, and minor surface marks to the lenses and frames. Overall, a visually strong and substantially complete example of WWII Japanese aviation equipment.
